Dr. Tempel received his Ph.D. from Princeton University. He joined UW Otolaryngology in 1988 and was also professor of pharmacology at the Virginia Merrill Bloedell Hearing Research Center and a research affiliate at the Center on Human Development and Disability. He served as UW Otolaryngology's director of research from 2011-2015. His research interests included neurogenetics of auditory function, genetics of hearing loss, and auditory signal encoding. Dr. Tempel retired in 2017.
