The University of Washington Department of Otolaryngology-HNS is excited to announce a major program expansion. Because of growth in our department, we have been granted an expansion in the number of residents: from four residents per year to five residents per year. As such, we will match five interns for this coming 2024-2025 academic year. The news of our approved expansion was received in January 2024.

Additionally and concurrently, we have been successful in transitioning our NIH-funded resident research training program from the T32- to the R25-funded grant award, as of February 2024. The R25 mechanism will fund five research spots per year. We received this news the first week of February.

The UW Otolaryngology residency program is known for its excellence in training clinical residents with surgical technical competence across the breadth of otolaryngology; for placement of our graduates in their fellowships of choice; and for our commitment to rigorous research and academic training with the goal to create future leaders in otolaryngology.

We are very excited about these changes which will strengthen our learning environment and our training program.
