Shanece L. Washington, AuD, MPH
Biography
Dr. Shanece Washington is the chief of audiology and a clinical assistant professor and joined the UW Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Department in 2024. She holds a Doctorate of Audiology from the University of Washington and a Master of Public Health from the University of Michigan, specializing in applied epidemiology.
Dr. Washington began her career in 2016 as an active-duty audiologist in the U.S. Navy, serving in leadership roles including department head of Audiology and Regional Hearing Conservation Program manager. Her work supported the hearing health of over 30,000 personnel and earned recognition for improving patient care and international collaboration.
A passionate advocate for health equity, she developed the Navy’s first Health Equity Charter and advised leadership on diversity and organizational improvement initiatives. Her contributions have been featured in ASHA journals and other publications, and she has been recognized with multiple awards, including Navy commendation medals and selection into Harvard Medical School Women’s Leadership Program.
