Biography

Dr. Barber's practice is dedicated to surgery for benign and cancerous head and neck tumors as well as facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. She strives to create active partnerships with her patients to achieve the best possible outcomes. 

Dr. Barber completed her M.D. and surgical residency training at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. She also completed a Master of Surgical Science at the University of Oxford for her dissertation work in peripheral nerve regeneration in head and neck cancer patients. She then went on to complete a fellowship in advanced head and neck cancer surgery and microvascular reconstruction at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

Awards and Honors

Dr. Barber has competed and been awarded in the National Poliquin Research competition and multiple other regional research grants previously. She has been awarded the R.E. Fraser Excellence in Teaching Award and clinical service awards for her excellence in patient care and teaching. She was awarded the prestigious Nilay Patel Memorial Award during her studies at the University of Oxford in 2016 for her work on distress management in head and neck cancer patients. Dr. Barber has given over 40 national and international podium presentations and has over 20 peer-reviewed publications pertaining to the treatment and care of head and neck cancer patients.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Barber's clinical interests include head and neck cancer surgery, robotic surgery, and salivary and endocrine surgery. She has a special interest in reconstructive surgery for skin cancers. Her research interests include quality improvement in free flap reconstruction, peripheral nerve regeneration, cancer genomics, and HPV-related oropharyngeal cancer treatment.
